Day 2

John 10:10 (NET)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.
Jesus is not like the enemy. The enemy harms and destroys. Jesus’ purpose is to bring life to people!

If you have ever wondered what Jesus wants for you - this verse sums it up. Jesus wants LIFE for you; abundant life or life abundantly. Abundant means more than one would normally expect or anticipate. Jesus comes so that you and I may have much more life than we would expect or anticipate!

One of our favorite places to camp is in the Porcupine Mountains in Upper Michigan. One year we went during the winter and stayed in a primitive cabin near a small river. We took a hike to explore and came upon these gullies with steep, tall banks on the side of the river. The amazing thing was that the walls of the banks were covered in several different kinds of moss! Even in the middle of winter, there were layers and layers of different shades of green! The closer we looked, the more life we found.

The life Jesus brings is surprising and abundant! There are layers and layers of the abundant life He wants to bring and the closer we look, the more we will discover. When I think about God’s desire to bring life, I don’t think He means just life in eternity. I believe that God wants you to experience life abundantly here and now. That doesn’t mean fancy cars and rich foods though. Rather I think that abundant life often looks like peace, simplicity, beauty, authenticity, joy, assurance, contentment, belonging, purpose and love. I believe the more areas of our life we surrender to him and follow his ways, the more abundant life we will experience!
Prayer Focus for today:
Ask God to help you see where he has already brought abundant life in your life. What do you see when you look closer? Describe the “layers upon layers” of abundant life you have experienced because of Jesus.
