Day 22
2 Corinthians 9:7–8 (NIV)
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
What do you need in order to “abound in every good work”? Whatever it is, God is willing and able to supply it!
Have you ever heard the phrase “you are blessed to be a blessing”? The idea is that we aren’t blessed in order just to keep it to ourselves, but rather we are blessed in order to share! God loves a cheerful giver. Why? Because God is generous Himself! He loves to give and bless abundantly!
Proverbs 11:25 says, A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. And here in our passage for today, Paul reminds us that God is able to bless us SO THAT we will have what we need to abound in every good work.
Blessings aren’t given to us just to make us happy, comfortable or whatever. We are blessed in order to do good! And remember, this isn’t only (or even primarily) talking about material things. God’s abundance has far more to do with His love for us, His offer to give us life, free us from sin, extend us mercy and forgiveness, give us gifts to build up His church, transform our hearts, and give us a place in his Kingdom. But even those gifts are meant to be shared!
When we share, we will see that instead of running short for ourselves, we have “all that we need”.

Prayer Focus for today:
Take some time to list the blessings that you have in your life. Be careful to include things that aren’t physical as well as those that are. Then ask God to help you see how those blessings are to help you “abound in every good work.”
