Day 24

Psalm 31:19–20 (NIV)

How abundant are the good things
that you have sto red up for those
who fear you,
that you bestow in the sight of all,
on those who take refuge in you.
God is not limited in the blessings or good things that He desires to give you and He loves it when people turn to Him and seek Him for protection.

When I was a kid, my mom would bake homemade chocolate chip cookies while us kids were doing our school work. The house would fill up with that delicious scent and we would start looking forward to some  delicious, gooey, goodness! Oftentimes, mom would bring us a fresh cookie while we were still working. Yum!

Of course we would ask for another… and another! There isn’t much that beats a warm chocolate chip cookie and a glass of milk in my book. Unfortunately, there was always a limit on how many cookies we were allowed to eat (you know, health and all…).

Mom had good reason to limit us, but God doesn’t limit the good things that He has for us! He has abundant blessings for us! God has plenty and He gives generously!

The abundant good things that God has in store for us, aren’t given to us based on our merit or worthiness. God gives them to those who “take refuge” in Him and those who fear Him. Taking refuge is a figure of speech that means that we turn to God and seek His protection. Inherent in that is an acknowledgement that we need Him and that we want to be near Him.

God loves it when we turn to Him, whatever the reason! God has never asked us to achieve a certain level of goodness before He blesses us. Rather He blesses those who realize they need Him and turn to Him for shelter. (See also Matthew 5:1-12)
Prayer Focus for today:
Get specific - list the ways you need God. Draw near to Him and ask Him to shelter and protect you.
