Day 25
Psalm 50:9–15 (NET)
I do not need to take a bull from your household
or goats from your sheepfolds.
For every wild animal in the forest belongs to me,
as well as the cattle that graze on a thousand hills.
I keep track of every bird in the hills,
and the insects of the field are mine.
Even if I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and all it contains belong to me.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls?
Do I drink the blood of goats?
Present to God a thank-offering!
Repay your vows to the sovereign One!
Pray to me when you are in trouble!
I will deliver you, and you will honor me!”

This is such an interesting Psalm because it gives us a picture of God’s sovereignty and His autonomy. Everything in the universe belongs to God and He has no need of anything from us!
When we think about abundance, we have to consider that everything belongs to God. He created everything that exists out of absolutely nothing. With power like that, how could God ever experience a shortage? He does not need anything from us. When we realize the abundance God has, we can also know that He is more than able to provide for us and our needs.
Jesus tells us that God is concerned about our needs and uses natural things to remind us of his care for us in Matthew chapter 6. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” He goes on to say, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt. 6:25-27 and 31-33)
God is more than able to provide for our needs. He has an unlimited supply of resources! He doesn’t need us to give Him things, rather He desires our humility, our attention and our dependence on Him.

Prayer Focus for today:
What do you think it means to “seek first his kingdom”? Write out your thoughts. Are there any shifts that need to take place in your life in order to come more into alignment with God’s kingdom?
