Psalm 32 – Blessing of Confession
Pastor Logan – August 9, 2026
1 John 1:8–2:2 (NET)
1:8 If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1:9 But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness. 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us. 2:1 (My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.) But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, 2:2 and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.
Confession is a U-TURN.
Psalm 32 (NET)
Psalm 32 By David; a well-written song.
32:1 How blessed is the one whose rebellious acts are forgiven,
whose sin is pardoned!
32:2 How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the Lord does not punish,
in whose spirit there is no deceit.
All his sins are FORGIVEN.
32:3 When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away,
while I groaned in pain all day long.
32:4 For day and night you tormented me;
you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer.
(Selah)
1: Misery of Unconfessed sin
32:5 Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing.
I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.”
And then you forgave my sins.
(Selah)
What gets in the way of confession? PRIDE
32:6 For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you
while there is a window of opportunity.
Certainly when the surging water rises,
it will not reach them.
2: Opportunity of CONFESSION
Confession
32:7 You are my hiding place;
you protect me from distress.
You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance.
(Selah)
3: Ultimate blessing of CONFESSION: Restored fellowship with God.
Then the LORD prophetically interjects in the song through David:
32:8 I will instruct and teach you about how you should live.
I will advise you as I look you in the eye.
32:9 Do not be like an unintelligent horse or mule,
which will not obey you
unless they are controlled by a bridle and bit.
Do you need discipline to lead you or are you led by the JOY of the LORD?
32:10 An evil person suffers much pain,
but the Lord’s faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him.
32:11 Rejoice in the Lord and be happy, you who are godly!
Shout for joy, all you who are morally upright!

32:2 How blessed is the one whose wrongdoing the Lord does not punish,

All his sins are FORGIVEN.
- Sin – to miss the mark or fail to reach a goal or standard.
- Rebellious acts (transgressions) – that which is bent, twisted, or distorted.
- Wrongdoing (iniquity) – revolt, breach of trust, willful rebellion.
32:3 When I refused to confess my sin, my whole body wasted away,
while I groaned in pain all day long.
32:4 For day and night you tormented me;
you tried to destroy me in the intense heat of summer.
(Selah)
1: Misery of Unconfessed sin
- God’s KINDNESS leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4)
- If you belong to God, He will not allow you to sin successfully.
- Hypocritical spirituality forfeits heavenly joy and peace that can only be enjoyed by a clear conscience.
32:5 Then I confessed my sin; I no longer covered up my wrongdoing.
I said, “I will confess my rebellious acts to the Lord.”
And then you forgave my sins.
(Selah)

32:6 For this reason every one of your faithful followers should pray to you
while there is a window of opportunity.
Certainly when the surging water rises,
it will not reach them.
2: Opportunity of CONFESSION
- God is ready and able to forgive.
- Confess before the ‘surging waters rise’ (consequences, discipline, etc)
Confession
- Accept responsibility
- Admit honestly
- Act urgently
32:7 You are my hiding place;
you protect me from distress.
You surround me with shouts of joy from those celebrating deliverance.
(Selah)
3: Ultimate blessing of CONFESSION: Restored fellowship with God.
- God’s deliverance is profound! Shouts of joy from our lives.
Then the LORD prophetically interjects in the song through David:
32:8 I will instruct and teach you about how you should live.
I will advise you as I look you in the eye.
32:9 Do not be like an unintelligent horse or mule,
